Master of Science (M.Sc.) in Wind Engineering
The Wind Energy Industry contains companies and businesses with very high growth potential. With more than 5.000 employees and 2.717 wind turbines with 2391 MW installed capacity Schleswig-Holstein produces 1/3 of its electric power from the wind and takes a leading position in this field. With the growing wind energy usage a further increase of the installed capacity can be expected, especially in the offshore area.
Besides specialized mechanical and electrical engineers the wind industry has a growing demand for technical generalists. With the concept of an international Master’s degree course in Wind Engineering the path from the pure specialist towards the interdisciplinary system-engineer with an individual specialisation has been laid. A graduate earns the qualifications to do both, look into new designs of wind turbines and analyse complete wind driven power systems. This includes particularly the planning, design, production, erection and operation of such installations and its components.
On initiative of CEwind, the Center of Excellence for Wind energy Schleswig-Holstein, the course is held by the faculty of six Universities: The Department of Engineering of the Christian-Albrechts State University at Kiel, the University of Flensburg, the engineering departments of the Universities of Applied Sciences of Kiel, Flensburg and West Coast as well as the private Nordakademie.
The Master’s Course in Wind Engineering covers subjects in the fields of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, Business Economics and Environmental Sciences. All lectures are complemented with extensive hands-on training on commercial up-to-date software systems.
Graduates of this course will find a wide range of opportunities and openings in wind turbine and component manufactures, engineering and consulting firms, banks and insurance companies, public authorities, wind farm businesses and research institutions.
